Kai Sekimagoroku Kaname Knives

The Kai Sekimagoroku Kaname collection represents a refined interpretation of the traditional Kiritsuke within the premium Sekimagoroku range. Handmade in Japan, the series is built around a three-layer steel construction and characterised by a clean satin finish paired with a highly polished cutting edge. The design is precise and restrained, focusing on blade geometry and performance rather than decorative detail.

The Kaname series consists of three distinct Kiritsuke blade sizes, each offering a slightly different balance of reach, control, and versatility. While all share the same tapered profile and signature rear notch, the variations in length subtly influence how the knife performs on the board. The longer Kiritsuke lends itself to fluid slicing and larger prep tasks, while the shorter profiles offer greater manoeuvrability and precision for more detailed work. Together, the three forms create a cohesive range that adapts to different ingredients and techniques while maintaining the same controlled, deliberate cutting character.

Our Personal Opinion

Handling the Sekimagoroku Kaname knives, the Kiritsuke profile immediately defines the experience. The blade feels deliberate and slightly more directional than a standard chef’s knife, encouraging precise, intentional movements. The tapered form creates a sense of control at the tip, which becomes particularly noticeable during fine slicing and detail work.

In person, the satin finish has a clean, understated quality that contrasts with more decorative Damascus patterns found elsewhere in the Sekimagoroku range. The polished cutting edge adds subtle refinement without drawing unnecessary attention. The overall look is composed and technical rather than ornamental.

In use, the VG XEOS core provides a crisp cutting response while maintaining stability through the three-layer construction. The knife feels responsive without being overly rigid, supporting controlled push cuts and slicing motions. As a collection, Kaname feels precise and modern, offering premium performance in a streamlined, minimalist form that rewards careful technique.
